The first fact is that handel was not the inventor of the ice cream cone, he only invented it as a way to sell his other product. The second fact is that the first ice cream cones were made by a man named John Trelik who lived in New York City from 1812-1815. He had a business called "Turtle Creamery" and he sold ice cream cones out of a cart. His name comes from the fact that he used turtles shells for his cart.

The third fact about handel's ice cream is that his name is on the first ice cream cone. In 1806, handel got a contract from the city of New York to sell ice cream to the 5th regiment stationed there. Each soldier was given a copper coin called a sou to buy ice cream on a Sunday. The 5th Regiment used the money to buy food for the whole weekend. handel made 3 flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and coffee. He sold the ice cream from a push cart for 3 cents each (the 5th Regiment bought 30 quarts a day).

The fourth fact is that handel's company was the first to sell ice cream in New York. Before him, it was sold by street vendors and pushcarts.

The fifth and last fact is that handel's company owned the first ice cream shops in the US. They started building them in lower Manhattan during the summer of 1876. handel and his brother used to run the shops in a place called "Cupola." They also had a shop on 5th avenue in New York.

The verdict: it's hard to say. handel's ice cream was better than no ice cream at all, but comparing it to Ben & Jerry's is like comparing chalk to cheese. handel's ice cream has a very bad name due to the outrageous stories about him and his company, but that doesn't change the facts. handel's ice cream was made out of bad ingredients and sold bad quality ingredients. Ben & Jerry's has made a lot improvements in the years handel's company was selling their ice cream. They have made the quality of their ingredients so much better and now make ice cream with good ingredients that don't give you any nasty or strong tastes when you eat them. They have come a long way since their first ice cream "Scoop" and "Chunky Monkey". Even though handel's company was selling worse quality ingredients they made more money than Ben & Jerry's and had a much bigger company. So in the end handel's ice cream was worse and had a worse reputation, but that doesn't change the fact that it was still better than no ice cream at all.

The seventh and last fact is, handel's company sold more ice cream than Ben & Jerry's did. They sold about 2,000 quarts of ice cream a day to the people of New York. Ben & Jerry's sold about 1,800 quarts of ice cream a day.

The first idea was In-N-Out Burger, but the health department shut them down because they said the grease from the food would poison the customers. (They were right! It had a lot of success, and Ben & Jerry's moved their headquarters to this location in 1972. To this day, Chubby Checker's ice cream is still sold at Ben & Jerry's shops.

They also sell Rainbow Drops, brownies that come in different layers of brownies with different colored frosting. There's an entire book about all the different things they have in their stores.
* In the '70s one of their flavors was Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream. That was the first time I tasted any kind of peanut butter. I thought it was so good! I started eating a thing called peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when I was little because I thought they tasted like the ice cream.
* Ben & Jerry's used to have a lot of weird names for their ice cream. They had "Rocky Road", "Hunks'n' Hearts", and "Sphincter Beanz" flavors. In general, most of their names came from 60's bands or puns about bodily functions.
* Ben & Jerry's used to make a lot of different types of ice cream. They had "dessert" ice cream, like "Creamy Cinnamon", "Butter Pecan", and "Caramel Corn". Lastly, I would advise you to not eat any ice cream that is brown.
