1) Lisa Welches parents were both from the same town in Pennsylvania. They married when she was only a year old, but didn't live together until they had their first child. The couple lived in a small two room house with no running water or electricity for years after that. When Lisa was born, her mother's body began to fail due to tuberculosis. She died shortly thereafter of complications from childbirth. Her father took care of her while she was sick, and he did everything he could to make sure she survived. After she died, he married another woman and had additional children.

2) When Lisa was a child, her father saw her basic education as worthless and only wanted her to help around the household. She was only allowed to go to school when she was required to do so, and never learned to read or write.

3) Lisa didn't always want to be a teacher. She wanted to be a veterinarian. Her stepmother convinced her that becoming a teacher would set her up for life.

4)Things changed drastically for Lisa when she met an older man who took an interest in her. He wasn't a citizen, and had a lot of influence in the city. He also married her when she was 18.

5) Lisa's husband isn't really her husband. He is, or at least was at the time, actually an illegal immigrant. This man wanted a "real" marriage for some reason.

6) Lisa's stepfamily all live in a nice house on a large piece of property. They're all fairly well off.

7) Lisa's father and his new wife don't like Lisa very much. She gets this impression even if they don't say anything in so many words.

8)Lisa has a little brother who is four years younger. He was born with down syndrome and never walks or talks. He can only eat and drink with help. He is constantly dirty, and needs to be washed almost constantly as well.

9)Lisa's stepbrother has a job at the steel mill that was recently opened up. He doesn't really like it all that much, but since there isn't any other good job around, he works there.

10)Lisa's stepfamily always goes to the lake on vacation. They own two houses on the lake, a small house for when guests come over and a large house that her father and his family use.

11)Lisa doesn't have many friends, and those she does, aren't all that close. She spends most of her time on the internet with people she meets there.

12) Lisa's favorite food is cheese. She can apparently eat a whole gallon of the stuff in one sitting. She hates mushrooms, and cant eat them no matter how much she tries.
